155 kg of Gold Seized in a Foiled Smuggling Attempt

**Title: 155 kg of Gold Seized in a Foiled Smuggling Attempt at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)**

*Kathmandu, jul 23:In a significant victory against gold smuggling, the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) successfully intercepted and seized a massive haul of gold at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) yesterday. The weight of the smuggled gold, including the brake shoe, was found to be a staggering 155 kg, making it one of the largest smuggling attempts in recent history.

Thaneshwar Acharya, the Head of Mint Division, confirmed the weight of the brake shoe of the scooter containing the seized gold. The covert operation involved DRI officials apprehending the smugglers after the gold had passed through the TIA customs checkpoint from Sinamangal in Kathmandu.

The smuggled gold was skillfully concealed within the scooter's brake system, making it nearly undetectable during routine security checks. However, DRI's keen vigilance and meticulous investigative work led to the successful foiling of this audacious attempt.

After the seizure, the confiscated gold was immediately transferred to the Mint Division at Babarmahal. DRI officials worked tirelessly to unearth the hidden treasure concealed within the scooter's brakes, revealing an estimated 80 to 100 kg of gold within the compartment.

Authorities have expressed their deep concern over the rise in gold smuggling activities, which can have adverse effects on the country's economy and fiscal stability. The DRI's proactive efforts and commitment to curbing illegal activities have earned widespread appreciation from law enforcement agencies and the general public.

The exact value of the seized gold will only be known after Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) conducts a comprehensive weighing procedure. The NRB will also play a crucial role in investigating the potential connections of the smugglers to wider illegal networks, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

The successful operation at TIA stands as a testament to the determination and efficiency of Nepal's law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime and protecting the nation's interests. The public's cooperation and vigilance are instrumental in supporting these efforts to preserve the integrity of Nepal's borders and safeguard its economic wellbeing.

The DRI's commitment to unearthing the truth and their relentless pursuit of justice demonstrate that Nepal will not tolerate any unlawful activities undermining its progress and prosperity.

Stay tuned for further updates as authorities continue their investigation into this high-profile gold smuggling case.
